I'm with a search party, trying to find some people buried in an avalanche in the dark. We are following a specific protocol, passing as an organized group in some specific pattern.

Beneath the snow and ice, off to one side, I see some red and blue patterns like cloth, frozen under the snow. I suspect that this is what we're looking for, but I don't say anything because we'll get there in a minute.

I recall digging, and cutting away blocks of ice.
