Mud Climbing and Family Camping | | fritz | Feb 15, 2010 | I'm out camping and climbing with the family. I find this wall of hard mud, as if in the field below their house, and climb it using the cracks. It's foggy and visibility is low.
I seem to walk around all day alone, and late at night I'm approaching camp. I can hear the family singing around the campfire, singing a really good song and sounding fine. Somebody else is leading on the guitar, maybe Denny or Joe, and it's interesting to me that they're going without me.
I don't go up to the campfire, instead I turn and head into the woods, off to the side. I dig a cigarette out of my pack, and when I'm far enough away, I light it and start walking down a road alongside a lake. Then a couple boys of the family approach on the road, with a couple of dogs who are really happy to see me. It seems they caught up to me because they have a horse.
We sit down to talk. I have a bottle of wine in my pack, but I hide it away because there are only a couple of swigs left in it and I don't have enough to share.
I check my watch, and it's almost 11pm. I'm disappointed that it's so late and I don't have much time to enjoy around the campfire. | Next: Cabin, Airplane, and Where To Sleep? |
