I'm in a store in a strange town, as if a tourist. I'm with a traveling companion, and the store is like a dark lingerie store, sexy but not in a crass way.

We are on our way to look for a hotel. We go to the back door of the store, to large double doors with pushbars, on which is written a warning: entering the GAY part of town. We stop there, looking at the doors.

My traveling companion has not been to this city before, so I explain that yeah, that side of town is seedier, but we could still probably find a good hotel there, whereas if we go back to the other side we will have more of the "normal" type of choices, like a Motel 8, for example.
