Just Asking... | | fritz | Mar 16, 2010 | I'm on a bus, like a school bus with high green seats. I'm talking to a woman that is sitting in the back, and as I'm approaching my stop I ask her name. She continues the conversation without answering that question.
As I'm getting up, somebody presents me an envelope with my paycheck, announcing that our pay has been restored - finally! It's very exciting for everyone, and they all want me to open the envelope, so they can see how much I'm getting paid. But I try to just blow it off by joking that I don't want to make anyone feel bad when they see how much more I get than they do.
From the aisle of the bus, as I'm gathering my things, I chide the girl for still not telling me her name. She holds out her left hand, displaying a wedding ring, saying "I'm taken, see."
"Geez," I say, "I didn't mean anything like that, I was just asking your name."
She says her name is Tova, and I tell her that my sister's daughter is named Tova, and it seems like an unusual name. | Next: The Seedy Side |
