I'm in someone's house, and he loans me some of his socks to walk somewhere, so I don't have to go to the trouble of putting my boots on.

I'm hesitant to put my bare feet in his socks, due to potential of spreading foot fungus. I think I saw his feet, and it scared me. But then, I don't want to deny his generosity, and I reason that foot fungus can be cured. So I put them on, hesitantly.

It turns out they are way too big anyway, and they aren't like socks in that they don't go up the ankle; they cover only the foot, so there's no way to make them stay on. I go a couple of steps across his kitchen and they start falling off.
