I'm driving somewhere, as if going North on I-5. I take an exit and stop at a store, and go in but don't buy anything. Steve seems to be with me; I think he was in another car that caught up with me at the exit.

As I go back to the car, I stop to pet a small cat that is lingering around the store. At first it is black and gray in stripes, and enjoys being petted. I worry about running it over when I back out, but I'm fairly sure that I can avoid it.

Then, as I'm looking at it, it becomes more sickly, and turns to a puddle of translucent mush. Its fur turns to strange gooey pseudopods, and it seems in very poor health. I'm worried about it, but I decide that there is nothing I can do for it.

As I head back toward the freeway, I notice two other cars coming from opposite directions, on what should be two lanes in the same direction. One of them is going the wrong way, but it doesn't seem to be obvious who it is. They approach each other and slow down, looking confusedly at each other, then pass and continue each in their own direction.
