Polar Forest BearsfritzJan 21, 2011

I'm hiking (seems my dream self has been doing that a lot lately), and have the rare opportunity to see some huge polar bears, just walking along the trails ahead of us. There is a huge mother bear, and a smaller polar bear, and then another smaller black bear, who I take to be an adult of a smaller breed. It isn't snowy; it's like northwest woods, so the bears are rather out of place.

The black bear and the baby polar bear are tussling around and play-fighting, until suddenly the mother bear, who is larger than even a real polar bear, flies into a rage and attacks the black bear. The black bear backs into a crevice at first, but it is too large to hide there, so it fights back, opening its mouth and baring its teeth at the mother bear.

It seems that the mother is just protecting her baby, and it will end peacefully, but we back off lest her anger be projected on us.
