Diving and Radio Repair VacationfritzMar 23, 2011

I'm on vacation. I check into a hotel by the water. The checkout girl is nice, but I have to go outside the hotel and around to get to the stairs up to my room. My room is spacious. My friend is supposed to be here tomorrow.

I go out to explore. Last time I was here, Shawn was here, and he showed me around. There are boats, and scuba diving to be done.

I go out and jump in the water. I want to take a rowboat out to this island where the dives start, but I have to first get the boat, which is down under many feet of water (this seems normal; there's a dock down there, and it's just where you pick it up).

I start to dive down to get the boat, but I realize in my hand I'm holding my expensive tri-band HAM radio, and it shouldn't get wet. The deeper I go, the worse it'll be. So I surface and try to dry it off, which I can't do while swimming. I mess around with it a bit, getting it into a state where I can hear the air hissing out of the case. While swimming, I manage to disassemble the case with a screwdriver, but then it all falls apart and it is a struggle to catch all the screws, especially these tiny barrel ones like for eyeglasses, which must be tightened with a pocketknife. Somehow I get it all together, and get out of the water.

I go back up to the hotel and change, and go walking around. Outside the front door is a souvenir shop, and I walk through it before going around to the island. There I pass some people by an open door, pulling diving equipment out in preparation for a dive. Aha, here is where we'll dive.
