Rock Climbing and Cow Dodging | | fritz | Apr 17, 2011 | I'm climbing with Ty at a rock climbing park. There's a main wall across the front, and above it are some easy routes, where I can see Doug from the climbing club giving some instructions to a beginner.
We're looking for someplace new to climb, and the map shows some other routes above that. So we head up into that area, which is covered in trees and bushes, but nicely trimmed like a park. We get up to the top, and at the peak of the hill, there is a fence.
"I knew it", I say, "I've come up here before and there were no climbing routes. I guess maybe it's a future plan."
Then a cow shows up, a very aggressive cow with a huge rack of horns, and starts chasing us. We are scared at first, but then we figure out how to stay away from us. I explain to someone "you can't just run away, or they'll outrun you. You have to place something in between you and them, and then they get confused." | Next: Anticipating Crevasse Rescue |
