Bad Movie and Good BirdfritzJun 1, 2011

I'm going to a movie with my brother Steve and his wife Rimli. We get our tickets, which surprisingly come with a packet of papers and some 3-D glasses. Cool, I didn't realize it was in 3-D!

We make our way along a hallway, where there are several rooms to choose from. They aren't like movie theaters; they are bright and full of rows of chairs. All the chairs are full, and we check one after another looking for a place to sit.

Finally we find a room that has some seats available, but it isn't playing the movie that we came to see. No worries, Steve tells me that it is by a director that he and Rimli have seen before and liked.

We start watching the movie, projected on the wall but still more like a room than a theater, but the movie is terrible. Nobody is enjoying it.

I'm paying attention instead to a white pet bird, like a dove but larger, which they are holding. I ask if I can hold it, and they hand it to me. At first it bites at me, but once we've established ourselves, it really likes me. It rubs my neck with its head, and then curls up and falls asleep, sprawled in my arms like a cat. I'm in an awkward position for watching the movie, but I wiggle around into a better pose, waking the bird up but not disturbing it much.

Then I notice that a guy who is apparently running the movie apparatus is crouching on the floor near the screen (it was on the wall, but now it's on the floor like a TV). He has disconnected a cable, and connected it to a different cable so he could watch a different show, apparently thinking nobody was enjoying this one. I say something like "hey, we were watching that" and he puts it back on.
