Ancient Mysteries SoakedfritzJun 25, 2011

I'm the passenger in a car, with Natasha driving on a highway. She asks me where we're headed, and I don't know. We're supposed to pick up somebody at the airport, but I forgot to bring the details.

She suggests just going to the airport and asking them, but it won't work. I don't even know his last name. His first name is Ryan, that's all I know. I don't even know which airport to go to, and they are in different directions from here. I ask her to pull over, while I check my email on my phone and see if I can find the information.

After we pull over, the car doesn't work, and we end up at someplace like my parents' driveway. It's like a VW bus with the motor in the back, so I'm squatted down there trying to fix something, when my dad unexpectedly starts the engine, and I jump back, blown with exhaust. But at least it's working.

Later in the living room, I mention to my mom - like, oh yeah - at some school or social function I won the big raffle, for $5000, quote, "in cash and prizes"! Dad won a smaller one, worth like $350 or $500. I say this just as I'm going out the corner door that exits onto the porch.

I end up on a deck, where there is a guitar of mine in a soft case leaned against the wall, and some local flooding has created a puddle so that it's standing in about an inch of water. At first I ignore it, thinking that the water won't get into the case, but then I figure I'd better check it. In the pocket of the guitar case is a huge hardbound book called "Ancient Mysteries Explained" (*), of which the bottom inch is water-soaked. Aww, dang... I pull it out and ruffle the pages, trying to think of some way to dry it out with minimal damage.

(*) This is like an old book I have called "Into the Unknown", but it's a little bigger. "Ancient Mysteries Explained" is a name I gave to a musical recording I made with some friends about 20 years ago.
