Crawlspace BedroomfritzMay 17, 2006

I've moved to a new place, a bedroom in somebody's basement. Except that it isn't really a basement, it's a crawl-space under their house. There is a bed and the necessary apparatus for a bedroom, but it is as one might expect for a crawl-space: uneven dirt floor, dust and bugs and cobwebs, that distinctive smell, and only about two feet floor to ceiling. The house appears to have no foundation, like my old Multnomah Village house, instead being set on whatever solid items were laying around.

It's a significant effort to crawl in, but I make my way to my new bed and peer out from under the house. I can see the sunlight in some parts of the periphery, not in others.

It occurs to me that this is not a very good bedroom, because if there were an earthquake, I would likely be crushed instantly, and the odds would be good since so much of our lives is spent sleeping. Anyway it would be hard not to get terribly dirty whenever coming in or out.
