I have a lunchtime romantic interlude with a girl, and then we are driving back toward work, as if on Macadam between Lake Oswego and the Ross Island Bridge. Suddenly there are electrical cables all around, dangling down from overhead wires into the street. I slow to a crawl but keep driving, and the dozens of wires start breaking and sparking. It becomes really dangerous, and I stop the car in the middle of it, afraid to go any further.

The wires still blister all around the car, and it doesn't seem safe. So I throw my weight against the side of the car, causing it to tip and roll over the barrier and fall about 40 feet into shallow water, just about a foot deep.

There are several other cars down there, with people who made the same decision, and we get out and wade over to talk to them, all of us looking up at the roadway, the sparking wires, and more cars coming through. Then I see, back in my car, the face of my dog - either Molly or Charlie - peeking through the window looking concerned. Oops, forgot the dog! I go back to get him.
