I'm in a car with Natasha and I think Alona is in the back seat, pulled over to the side of a street that looks like downtown Newberg, the westbound street where the library is. "Just a sec," I say, getting out. I don't think it will be very long, so I don't even change the music, which is playing an Abba song (*1) that I don't think they like very much.
I walk up the street a bit to a very small building with a snack machine inside, apparently my destination. It's a big machine, as I can see, full of boxes of Dunkin' Donuts. Some of them don't look that good, but some do, and I'm thinking that will be cool if a bring back a surprise of some donuts for everybody.
I put money in the machine, but it wants a whole process. There is something I have in my pocket, some small apparatus, and I have to take it out and put it on a little platform, where it is weighed and examined by the machine. It takes some process, and time is wasting. I think the bills are wrinkly, so I try the whole thing again with a different bill. At the end, my request is denied the second time, and Natasha is getting out of the car and coming up the sidewalk impatiently.
I gather up my packages, which are very complicated and difficult to carry (*2), and exit through the door just as Natasha is coming in.
*1: I loaned Ken my phone to try an experiment with Bluetooth at work, and there was an Abba song in the queue, just a random track I picked out to test that the music playing worked on my replacement phone
*2: I was similarly carrying a lot of chaotic baggage back from the car this evening, slinging things on my shoulders and thumbs and just carrying too much. |
