I'm performing some operation on my own hand. I cut away the skin, without any pain, around the base of my right thumb, and pull the thumb out so that something can be inserted between the thumb and hand, some sort of white synthetic thing, like a plastic bone. It doesn't hurt, but it looks like it could, and I think the plastic bit isn't ready yet, so I put the thumb back for a while.

A waiter shows up with some sandwiches, asking "who ordered the ham?", but I don't think I did, because I ordered something special, something unique that cannot easily be explained. But on further examination, the complex thing that I ordered just turned out to be ham.
