Rockin' the CourtroomfritzMar 15, 2013

I come into a modern courtroom, where there are rows of benches like church pews. Julie is sitting over to the right in the second row; I think I'm there to be supportive of her. But then I see that somebody else - I think Natasha - is in the third row, but on the left end near where I came in. I think it will offend either girl if I sat near the other, and anyway I'm in a wheelchair, so I wheel around to a position in the back behind the pews.

Somehow I accidentally turn on a loud stereo that I have with me, it starts blaring some Rammstein, and I can't figure out how to turn it off. I can feel everyone staring at me as I try to shut it off, but it just doesn't have a button for that (*). How the heck could they make it so difficult? It is two parts, like a player and a speaker, and I briefly silence it by disconnecting the plug between them, but for some reason that doesn't seem valid; there should be a way to shut it off with a button or something. I do manage to turn it down so that it is very quiet, but it can still be heard all over the room.

I look up, and almost everybody has left, including the two girls. There are still two women up at the front, probably the judge and a court official, and I explain to them that it's not my fault, I was trying to silence it but it has a design flaw. "Bring it up here," they say, "we'll disable it permanently."

No, I explain, it is actually a rather valuable item.

(*) Playing with Google Hangout today, couldn't find a way to shut it off. Also much of life dealing with awkward scope interfaces where I can't find the function I want.
