Lousy Sliding ConditionsfritzApr 2, 2013

I'm on a snowy hill, where we have to walk up a long, winding trail, to then slide down. The group is led by Randy the Taekwondo instructor.

As I arrive at the top of the hill, I am preceded by a very large group of younger people, who are all lining up across the hill to slide simultaneously. I think this a dangerous idea, as they will all crash into each other as they slide. They all go, and the crashing doesn't seem to be a problem, but the wearing of the snow is. They melt it in ruts all the way down to wet pavement, and Randy has to close the hill.

People are still going off it, but it isn't the snowy slide that it was. Now it's these puddles of water that you slide across, which then run into ridges of dirt that send you jumping off, and then landing in another puddle. It doesn't seem like what I signed up for, so I don't slide.

I go down to the bottom of the hill, and it has turned into yet a different sport, where instead of sliding on the hill, people are sliding along some wet boards they have placed across the water. It seems dangerously splintery.

I check the stairs going up, and there is just a painted stick across the stairs saying the hill is closed. People are just ignoring it. I think we have to put up a more preventive barrier, like two sticks.
