I'm driving a large semi-truck in the parking lot of the billiard club near Bi-Mart. There's a small, black, curly-haired dog in the road, and I steer around him, but he runs around and I am not so attentive to the rear wheels. In the rear-view mirror I see him lying on the pavement.

I stop and run back to see him, and it turns out he is not injured, and quite happy to have some human attention. His fur is very ratty and unkempt. He is wearing a collar, and it has on it a pale plastic tag that indicates his membership in the dog pound. On the back is a mark indicating that he is to be put to sleep.

I like him, although I don't really want another dog. Though I'm not sure what to do with him, I certainly won't send him back to the pound to be killed.
