Poorly Designed AuditoriumfritzMay 27, 2013

I'm in a huge auditorium. My friends and I have seats way up in a distant balcony, where the view of the stage is blocked by a large barrier across the whole front of our field of view.

We find our seats, and I can hear the show starting below. It seems like some sort of lecture, but with a lot of drama.

The seats curve around to my right, where I can see that they reach just around the side of the barrier, so I go up there to take a peek at what's going on down below. I have to make this one jump that is quite critical, from one row of seats to the next, really close to the edge of the balcony. Seems almost designed to be a trap! But I make it, and peer around the edge of the barrier just as the orchestra reaches a crescendo and I take in the entire auditorium, and it is very large, and a long way down from where I am standing.

In sequence with the crescendo, the barrier falls away too, and now our seats have a view of it all, although not a very good one. There isn't enough of an angle, so our view of the stage still seems to be blocked by the rest of the balcony in front of us.

Anyway, I take my seat next to my girlfriend and settle in with her.
