Beach Creature ViolencefritzJul 18, 2006

I'm swimming at a sandy beach, but with rocky edges and craggy islands sticking up out of the water. I find a children's diving mask in the water, and put it out on the rocks. There's a store up on the cliff, and I think I'll go up there and buy a real diving mask so that I can check out the creatures in the water.

Somewhere nearby is a display tank with local creatures inside. There are some hermit crabs, and I reach in and place one atop another to see if they will fight. They don't, but then one of them attacks a large mammal who is also in the cage - a long-bodied, short-legged creature like a groundhog or meerkat. The size mismatch seems to indicate that there will be no challenge, but as the groundhog tries to bite the hermit crab, it scrambles inside its mouth and starts flailing and grinding the insides out of the groundhog. I've seen this trick before, and I watch in some horror as the groundhog's eyes become lifeless and he dies. I remark that he's been in there all morning and nobody expected that to happen. It's all been recorded on video, and in my mind, the groundhog still lives on the recording.

I remember the children's diving mask, but it seems the tide has come in and washed it off the rocks. Or maybe somebody took it.

I am then out on the cliffs, looking down, and I can see the tent where some of my family are camping (I remember Frank and Keta's family). It is yet early, and bright out, but it seems they are getting ready for bed. I can't believe it, when there is so much day left and so much to do.
