Negotiating for MeatfritzMay 27, 2014

I'm at a stall on the side of the street, where they are selling big pieces of meat, like a side of ham, the size of a turkey. I don't want a whole one, but I talk to my friends and we decide to split one.

I tell the proprietor that I want to buy one, and he asks if I want glaze on it. "Like this one?" I ask, pointing out one that is covered in a think glaze, and he says yes, like that one. I ask him if the glaze is sweet, he says it is very sweet, and I say no, I don't want it glazed, just plain please.

Then in a flurry of words with a strong Russian accent, he seems to be trying to upsell me to some other deal, where I go to their lab or something.

"I can't understand you very well," I say, "but I think you're trying to sell me something else, where I go to your lab or something. I'm not interested in that, I just want to buy the meat and take it with me."

Things get chaotic. I think he's offended by that, or something, and there's a small uproar in the store. A girl tells me that this suggestion of going to the lab is just part of the negotiation and I say that's fine, my answer was the next part of the negotiation.
