Hands Off My Headphone CablefritzSep 12, 2006

I'm driving in my Bronco near Rex Hill, entering 99W east from a small road to the south, near where Leah lives. The last bit of hill is steep, and the truck is having trouble getting up it. I'm not sure if it is a traction issue, or if my truck is having trouble.

As I am driving on 99W toward Portland, I accidentally drop a headphone extension cable out the window. I stop immediately and go back to get it, where it has fallen on some person-sized rocks piled between the lanes. Just as I am reaching for it a small boy about 8 years old grabs it first, and he won't give it back. I explain to him that it is mine, it fell out my window and I stopped immediately to pick it up, but he won't give it back. I try to explain the morality of the situation, but he just says it's his now.

Another man pulls over and offers me another cable. He doesn't have the right one, but he has several with different adapters and connectors that could probably do the job. I thank him but say no, it's ok, I'll just get a new one. Then I use him an example to the little kid: "See, this nice man is giving something, and that's good. You're taking something, and that's bad."
