Collapsing Bridge | | fritz | Aug 17, 2015 | I'm outside, walking around, and it's really snowy and icy out. I come to a bridge, like an overpass, perhaps around Barbur Blvd, and climb up on it. Somebody climbs down it in such a way that is risky and dangerous, and I notice that they are being irresponsible, but then the stones of the bridge - large flat pieces of shale - start sliding and tumbling down, and the whole thing falls to rubble.
I manage to escape the carnage, but a couple of the other people who were on the bridge are not so lucky, and now they are buried and bloody. I pull out my phone and dial 911, but all I hear on the other end is ambient noise, of distant people talking in a room. I call again, with the same result. It seems like the circuits are overloaded, and there is nobody there to take my call. There are other bystanders there, and I call out them to try calling 911 as well to see if they can get though. Just then I see some emergency vehicles coming up the road, but it seems even if someone had gotten through to them it would be too soon; maybe they are headed somewhere else. | Next: Dropped on Mount Hood |
