New Zealand Piano CollectionfritzOct 2, 2006

I am on my way to New Zealand. My watch is now on New Zealand time, and I forgot to keep track of the time at home. I'll have to figure that out later.

Steve and I stay at some sort of bed-and-breakfast. I awaken in the middle of the night, it feels like I'm sleeping on straw, and I'm wondering where I am. Then dawn comes and I can see that I'm in a field. Some young children are on an early hike, keeping me awake. I wonder about bugs in the field that might bite or annoy, and looking around, I think I see a snake, but it is just a centipede. Still I'm not sure it's a good idea to be sleeping here.

We go back to the home of our host, which is nearly a palace. They have dozens of guests, and they gather us all for a meal, standing in rows at these silver tables in a very white room. Then they take us to another dining room, through the maze of the house, and we pass many luxurious rooms with dark rich furniture and shiny wooden tones.

When we get to our destination, I realize that I left my camera back on the table in the other eating room, so I go back to get it. I'm trying to follow the landmarks, but still I get lost. I come to a huge room like a casino floor, with hundreds of pianos. At first I am mistifyed as to why anyone would need so many pianos - it's too many to even play, although I'd like to spend some time in here and play different ones. But then I realize that it is a piano collection, like a museum, with each one marked with its style and origin. Besides huge grands, there are spinets and even tiny cheap ones, lined up in rows and categorized.
