I'm on a road trip, I think with my brother Steve. We are heading for home; seems we are going North. The map isn't like reality, but it seems familiar from a previous dream, perhaps. There's this town to the south of home that's sort of the last bit of civilization, and then the highway takes a long circuitous route looping around to the west before arriving 'home', which doesn't seem like Portland. The name of the town is something familiar from the Oregon/Washington map, perhaps Longview?

In the dream it's a town that we know, so we make a stop before the last long haul - something like 4 or 6 hours - to home. We go into a restaurant, a fast place where you order at the counter, and select some food to eat. I think we ask the service person what there is to do in this town, just out of curiosity, and he or she beckons us to follow.

Not far away we come to a long stairway, which takes 5 minutes or so to ascend, and I'm wondering how long we have to go up. But it turns out, that is all the climbing we do, and we've reached the top of this escalator complex, which features a long, fast slide (but it isn't slick like a slide, it's more like a long fast downhill escalator). I start sliding down it, and it's very fun. I take out my camera hoping to take some movie footage, but I can't figure out how to get it into movie mode, as I'm sliding. I try for a few seconds and then decide not to bother, as monkeying around with the camera is taking the fun out of sliding.

We get to the end of it, and end up back at the restaurant. It's been like an hour since we ordered our food, so we wonder if our order still exists, but they take care of that and serve us at a table. I think it's waffles, with shrimp (*).

This delay will make our trip go late into the night. I wonder if we should instead get a motel and make the journey in the morning.

(* I was just at The Grotto that evening, where they had fairly few food choices but one was waffles, as a sandwich-like meal, but I don't think they had shrimp)
