Strange Moon | | fritz | Nov 11, 2017 | I step outside an unfamiliar house onto the front porch, overlooking a central field. People are gathered in small groups around the field as if something is happening, some with boxes or other observation apparatus. Across the field, I see a group of people looking up into the sky, as if observing an eclipse, and I wonder what is going on.
I take a quick glance directly into the sun, but of course it's too bright to see anything, so I think I'd better get the eclipse glasses, which I still have from the last eclipse. I go inside to find them, but there is a pair just inside the door, in a mess of toys on the floor, so I just grab those and go back outside to look.
The moon is up in the sky, but it looks like a soccer ball. Then another similar-looking moon comes zooming across the sky. Apparently this is what everyone came to see. Is it a second moon? A comet? At first it just seems to be tracing across the sky in a normal arc, like any celestial object.
But then it hits the other moon, or something else in the sky, and starts bouncing around off other objects. | Next: Didn't Get Her Number |
