Bears on the TrailfritzNov 21, 2017

I'm walking along a trail with some of my nieces of nephews, and a couple of black bears have joined us. They are walking with us like dogs, going in front and behind us. I pick up one of the children onto my shoulders to get her out of reach of the bears. They don't seem to be threatening, but could clearly be dangerous.

There are two bears - one baby, and one full-grown one that is probably its mother. I ask the child on my shoulders, like a quiz, "what bear should you definitely not mess with?" and answer, the baby bear, because its mother could be very fierce in protecting it.

We try to get away from the bears by downclimbing this rock wall, which is about 10 feet vertical but with good handholds. But when we get partway down we realize there are more black bears down there, so we climb back up.
