I'm on a commercial airplane, and looking out the little windows, I can see trees whizzing by right at our eye-level, as though we are very near to the ground. The trees are just dark silhouettes against a sunset sky, and for a moment I brace myself for an imminent crash, but then... nothing happens.

I think I ask the pilot, and he says that it's ok, we're not whizzing along the ground, there's just something wrong with some simulator.
