Lobsters, Seagull, and Monster CrabsfritzApr 17, 2019

I'm doing some aquarium maintenance, in a place that isn't quite like my house, it's mostly empty, and yellowish-toned. To clean the water, I have to trade the places of this slug-like creature in the main tank, and a lobster in a side tank. Taking the slug out is really fun; he's longer than the palm of my hand, and seems to slither happily when I handle him. Moving the lobster is more difficult, but I grab him behind his claws and put him in the main tank, where he immediately starts fighting with some smaller hard-shelled creatures in the tank. I'm watching, trying to decide what to do, when a seagull alights on top of the tank, and immediately takes the lobster's rapt attention. The lobster sneaks up, directly in front of it, and since his back is to me I consider grabbing him while I have the chance, but I decide to let it play out. The lobster makes an attack with one of his limbs, which startles the seagull into taking a step back, but it doesn't seem to know what that was all about, and pretty quickly steps back up near the edge of the glass half-covering the top of the tank. The lobster lines himself up in the water directly in front of the seagull, focusing himself, and then deftly plunges one of his mandibles straight into the heart of the seagull, killing it immediately.

Vera asks me what will happen next, and I say that he will probably take the seagull somewhere and devour it, which he does, dragging it out of the tank into a corner of the room, and makes a bloody mess of feathers and gore as he digs into it.

A bathroom is adjacent, which is my bathroom at home (and it actually fits reality, if the tanks were in the bedroom) and I notice a leak from the toilet, from the valve underneath at the back, dripping onto the floor and making a little creek that goes diagonally across to the other side of the room. It's been there long enough to wear a little path. I have somebody in there to fix it, but as I'm showing them, we notice a huge crab, nearly two feet across, clinging to the wall just to the right of the toilet. It has a huge body and not very big or threatening legs, and no apparent claws. I explain that these huge crabs are infesting the place lately, but don't seem to cause any real trouble, as I take it off the wall and set it down on the floor, where it starts crawling away to find a place to hide.
