Thrilling HikefritzDec 21, 2020

I'm hiking on some very high rocks that make it almost like rock climbing. There's one area where we come around a corner and it's like "panic point" on Monkey Face, suddenly we're hundreds of feet above the ground, and just hanging there on our gear. It's a thrill that I'm excited to share with my hiking partner, whom I believe is my colleague Matt. I think we do it twice.

Then later we come back down near the ground, and there are these pools of water that looks like glacier runoff, very cold. Suddenly Matt runs out from behind me somewhere and dives headlong into the pool. I expect him to howl in freezing pain, but he doesn't. I ask him how the water is; he says it's nice.

This is the end of the hike, in fact the pool seems to be indoors, although surrounded with wild rock, looking almost fake, like a zoo, but all the rock looked that way on the hike. I face a moment of indecision as to whether to go for a swim. I want to, it seems like it will feel great. But I don't have any other clothes to wear, so I'll have to drive home all soggy, which seems like an hour or so away, and I don't think I even have a towel. On the other hand, it'll save me having to take a shower when I get back. Some part of me thinks it's silly to be worrying about an hour or so of slight discomfort. Anyway, I decide not to swim, and go out to my truck, which is parked in the lot of this building where the hike ended.

In pulling my truck out, for some reason I have to accelerate quickly backward and end up ramming another car in the parking lot. I start to leave and then I realize, maybe in conversation with somebody else in the car, that I should leave some information for that person.
