Talking to Phoenix about ChessfritzMar 15, 2022

I'm walking along on the farm with my nephew Phoenix, coming down from the hill above the barn, where (in the dream) is a young orchard. We're talking about chess, as though we had just played a game. As if on a stairway that doesn't really fit geographically, Phoenix encounters a children's game that teaches about castling in chess, and he opens the game excitedly, anxious to learn about how castling works.

"Oh, you didn't know about castling? Well you played an excellent game then, for not even knowing about that!" I say. Apparently I beat him handily, but he did manage to put up a fight.

"We're all on this journey", I say, "learning chess, there are people who are better, and people who are worse, and you'll get better and better."

I think I fall down in the driveway; I remember the feeling of the gravel on my skin. I'm on my way to leave, apparently in my old pickup truck (which IRL now belongs to my parents), but it isn't parked in the driveway, it's around the other side of the house.
