There is this Asian girl who has come to visit us, perhaps in her late teens or early 20's. She is having a wedding here, and she decides to have it between our gendarmes (what we call these two little brick towers at the edge of our patio), to save money on the venue, and she just likes the gendarmes.

But that was a dream, and then I'm telling Vera (my wife) and Victoria (my stepdaughter) about it. But I get to a point where I expect some response, neither of them is paying attention, and Victoria just says she wasn't listening. This annoys me mightily, and I decide that I'm just going to go silent, and say nothing to either of them for a few days. I go into an adjacent room and get ready to go out; we're in a foreign country as if traveling, and I'm just going to leave and wander around by myself.

Then Victoria comes in and seats herself in a big easy chair, almost laying down, with her feet up. She said something like "about what just happened there..." as if she is going to apologize. Because I'm not speaking, I raise my hands up in a gesture like "ok...", but she takes offense and stomps out of the room.

Then Vera comes in and says that's it, it's over.
