University VisitfritzJan 6, 2007

I have come to a university to visit, I think with the idea of attending, but it's not a very certain plan at the moment. Natasha is tagging along. We meet a very large professor who seems interesting, so I ask him for his card or something so that I can contact him later if I need to.

He directs me to follow him, and we go up this little hill whose grass has been reduced to mud by the many student footprints. The mud is thick and rich and smooth, and I notice how much it looks like chocolate frosting. At the bottom of the hill is a crowd of students waiting in a huge line-maze, and I appear to be sort of cutting in front of them, but I'm not, because all I want right now is this guy's card, and they're probably registering or something. But I joke with them as I pass, "you've just got to get with somebody who really knows his way around", pointing to my professor.

We get to a small building with a window, sort of like a ticket booth, but as big as a single-car garage. We ask the girl at the window for the professor's ID, and she says we're going to have to take off our clothes. I presume she means our shoes, because they are all muddy, but I object that we're not coming inside, why should we take them off? Natasha scolds me for arguing and I say "but she has a window", but lean down to unlace my boots.

The window girl presents us with some electrical apparatus, like a cable TV decoder for the dorm rooms. I'm still unlacing my boots, so Natasha says no, we just wanted the professor's ID.

The girl says to Natasha "you need to learn a thing or two about saying 'thank you'!", although I'm pretty sure that she doesn't need to be thanked for bringing us something we didn't request, don't want, and can't use.
