First Day in ChemistryfritzNov 24, 2023

It's the first day of a new class. It seems to be some sort of chemistry or physics class, as the professor demonstrates a minor explosion on the bench at the front. He then shows us a video that appears to be security footage of a similar demonstration, perhaps of the same professor but too grainy to tell, except it goes wrong and there is a huge ball of flame, blowing the first row of people encircling the process a few feet away.

It seems that this is just an intro to the class, an easy and fun time to get us interested in the topic, not too serious. There is a break in the class, during which I get up and wander around, and when I return, there are no seats available. The professors tells everybody to pick up their bags and things if they are sitting on seats, and for people to crowd together because we need all the spots. I find a spot at the corner of a lab bench and the class continues.

After class, I pack up my things and then I pass this girl who is still packing up. I heard her say something about Liberia so I sort of joke with her, "so, what's that about Liberia?" and she goes into this long explanation of everything that's going on there. Meanwhile I had a sandwich in my hand, like a McDonald's Bacon, Egg and Cheese biscuit, and I had set it on her desk. She picks it up absentmindedly while she is talking and takes bites of it like it's hers. I decide not to embarrass her by pointing it out.
