The Lady and the BookfritzApr 3, 2024

I'm in a very fancy house. My wife is there, talking to the matron of the place, and introducing us. I'm interested to see inside this house; I drive by it every day (no analogue in real life), and it seems like quite an estate. Everything inside and outside looks like a very rich person. This lady lives there alone. The lady looks rich too, in very nice clothes and jewelry as she perches on the edge of a very nice chair, paired with another chair on which my wife sits, and in between a table.

On that table are three very large books, some of the largest I've ever seen. They not abnormal size, just very thick, almost to the point of being a cube. I'm not sure how I can even see that they are books, because they are in protective bags, or maybe one of them is out. The lady offers to let me look at them and I say of course, I'm very interested. I pick one up, take it out of the bag, and open it. It looks like, just a novel, a story about a person. There is an implication that you'd need to understand French to read it, but it's in very readable English. I'd like to borrow it and read some of it, but I'm confused about what exactly she has offered when giving it to me.
