Failed Show and Some BudfritzJan 22, 2007

I'm playing a show in a crowded hall. There is no stage, it's just flat like a ballroom. I play one or two energetic songs with my bandmate, and then take a break. Dad's renter Scott takes the stage for a song or two, and I go to the bathroom.

While I'm out I realize that we've forgotten the laptop, so we can't play the rest of our set, because our songs will be without drums and backing. It'll be terrible. I can't go back on. I try to get somebody to give a message to Scott to keep going, but it seems it's not necessary. He keeps going and going, singing songs and telling stories.

When the show is over, I want to find my bandmate and talk to him about why I didn't bring us back on. I see him passing between the buildings (it seems like a college campus or something) and try to follow, but he turns the other way, and then picks up a scooter and starts to ride, so I have to run to catch up.

I finally catch him on the edge of campus, and he is very upset. I explain that I forgot the laptop but he's still mad about the lost opportunity. I tell him there will be other gigs, and we will have plently of chances to play our real show.

We end up sitting on a log with some girls and other people. My bandmate pulls out a pipe and starts passing it around, but of course I don't participate.

There's a girl sitting in front of me, straddling the log with her back to me, and I have to choose between her and another girl across the circle, but the other girl is slightly less pretty, with kind of a prominent jowl. I like the one near me. I like the hair around the back of her neck. She leans back against me, and I put my arms around her.

Then some kind of rednecks or Mexicans show up with some beer in cans, intending to form a new circle behind us. "That's what we need", says the girl, "some Bud", in a way of asking the rednecks for one. One of them pulls three dimes from his pocket and says "Here, start your collection to buy yourself some."

The dimes fall on the ground, and first I tell the girl that it's her project, so she has to pick them up. But then I get up and pick them up for her anyway.
