I'm working at a spacious restaurant, doing something like cleaning tables, but it seems I'm a fairly high ranking person, maybe the boss. I'm awaiting the arrival of someone unfamiliar, whom I am supposed to take to lunch, to get to know him.
He arrives, a small oriental man, who speaks English poorly, with a strong accent. He says his name is George, and it seems the only thing he can really say is this little anecdote from his life, involving a rabbit or something. It seems like it will be a challenge to keep a conversation going.
I need to consult with him, or maybe just decide, where to go to lunch. We are in a strip-mall with several restaurants nearby (besides our own), one of which is a small oriental-food place. But I'm not sure whether it makes sense to take an oriental guy to an American "oriental" restaurant.
We get in a car to go to lunc. Somebody else, maybe Vera, is driving, he's sitting behind the driver, and I'm either in the passenger seat, or the back seat behind the passenger seat. I start trying to talk to him, probably about where to go to lunch, but he launches into the story about the rabbit again. |
