What Foreigners are Really Up To | | fritz | Dec 14, 2005 | I'm at some official political meeting in a room crowded with about 30 or 40 people. I'm in a row near the front, and we're listening to someone speaking.
In front of me are several foreigners, perhaps Finnish. They seem to be having fun and one of them tries to signal something to me but I don't understand. He gives up communicating and pulls from his pocket a rather backward sound-distribution device with four earphones coming off it. Each earphone then goes to a transducer that sends it on radio frequency to remote earpieces, one of which he gives to me.
They are listening to fun music, and while I am more interested in the present speaker, I want to hear what they are hearing as well. I then go out and end up in my parents' room, where I suddenly realize that the sound in the earpiece has been silent a while. Then I go back to the meeting room to find the foreigners and give them back their earpiece, but I don't recall finding them. | Next: Freeway Gore |
