Fish, Tim Trouble, and a Hiking ReunionfritzAug 24, 2007

I'm tending some fish in the redroom at my parents'. I have two tanks, and each has a large frog in it. One of the frogs has died, and that killed almost all the other fish in the tank. I'm dipping the living fish from the one tank and putting them in the other. Steve comes in and says something disparaging about my fishkeeping skills, to which I respond angrily. "Fuck you", I say. This feels like the second time I've lost all my fish due to heater malfunction (first was in real life), but I don't think I've got a heater on this tank.

Then I'm outside in the driveway, and dave is driving up in his van. He's being very careful, but Tim is right in his way, right in front of his driver-side wheel. I'm trying to call Tim out of the way but there's something blocking the line of sight between us (I think a large chess queen, perhaps symbolizing Scott's missing my obscured knight in the evening's game), so he can't see my signs. I step around, and tell him to move, and he does, but his back legs are twisted like he might have got hit.

Dave says if Tim gets better he'll help me build a platform with some stairs out by the driveway so that when there's danger I can send Tim up there, out of trouble.

Then Scott and I are going backpacking overnight, but we don't have much time. We're up in the mountains, and although the sun is out, the road suddenly becomes slippery. I'm driving, and all of a sudden I have no control. The car slips and slides along the road, turning sideways, and I have no idea whether we will settle comfortably into the ditch or plummet off a cliff. I guess I regain control, and I'm not sure whether Scott realizes how close a call it was.

We head out on the trail, and we come to a crossroads, and aren't sure where to go. It seems that we know one of the paths, but we know there aren't any good camp spots for quite a while on that trail, so maybe we should try a different one. But I think my high school reunion (for real in a few weeks) is happening near these crossroads, and I want to be nearby for it.

We split up to look for campspots, and I end up going back to the road, and walking along it. I meet three blonde girls, I think on the pretense of asking them where to camp. They are in an empty house on a bluff near the road, and I go in there and hang out with them for a while. They all seem to like me, especially a slightly chubby one who comes on to me without hesitance. I think the other two are more attractive, and though I like the chubby one, I wonder how I can get around her to the other two. I hope to catch up with them later, and move on.

I end up back at the farm, which is apparently where the real reunion is. There are many reunioners camping in the front yard and elsewhere, and I want to be there. I realize that my hiking plan with Scott isn't going to work, and I will just have to change the plan, like it or not. So I'm going to go back up to the trailhead (which is up the dirt road from my parents') and find him and tell him it's off, we're going to camp back at my parents'. But my truck (the old red one) has a problem, the hood is open and seems to be mangled. I don't think it will close.
