Strange Zen QuestfritzOct 29, 2007

My friend and I are studying some zen thing, and to complete our quest we sneak into a monastery at night to pass under this small shrub that forms a kind of archway, I think in conjunction with some magic words. I go feet-first into the bush, but I get stuck and can't get through, and my friend waits his turn.

Suddenly two tall thin monks in black cloaks discover us and run over to grab us. They think our idea is kind of funny, but they say what we need to do is go to this camp, and they send me there. I end up in the library at the camp, and what the monk told me was to rent this audio book. I find it on the shelf and take it. I stand around a while looking at the other books, for some reason finding it awkward to check out just one. But then I realize I won't have time for another book, and anyway I have plenty at home.

I leave the library and find myself outside, in a large cafeteria area populated with very very long picnic tables, spanning the width of the the clearing in one unbroken span. I'm looking for a place to sit that isn't wet, as there seems to have been recent rains. I find a spot and sit down, realizing that I forgot to check out the audio book before leaving the library. But I don't seem to have it.

At the front of the clearing, some people are trying to work out the audio system for a show this evening. Lucas is going to do some standup comedy. Somebody saw his show once before, and it was really funny.

I bump into Sheryl B., and squat down to "her level". She is very small, like a child, and I put my arms to her sides, my forearms extending from waist to armpits. I ask her how she is feeling, then realize I'm staring directly at her breasts so I make a conscious effort to look up to her eyes. She says that she feels ok as long as she stays current with the medicine, which she gets from the camp's daily health insurance.
