Leading the BlindfritzJan 15, 2006

I am leading a blind person, whom I think I just met, out onto a porch, which doesn't look familiar either.

I am guiding him by voice, then I take his hand to help. He gets to this small but sturdy picnic table, and I indicate that this is a good place to sit down. He suddenly sits down, falling to the floor because the indicated picnic table is to his left. Hmm, I must be more careful about being specific. I guide him to the picnic table and explain the option of sitting on the bench or on the table surface, as it is a very small table. I don't recall which he chooses.

I start describing the yard to him. I described the lawn, and the trees. Some of this and that, and fir trees. Lots of fir trees. A few in the yard, and the property is edged with very tall fir trees. I try to describe how tall they are, but as I am not very good at judging measurements, use only generalities. We can hear the tall trees in the wind, and perhaps even hear how tall they are.

I notice the blind boy has wandered around the side of the porch and has found something to play with.
