Trucks, Turnarounds, and Many Blonde BrothersfritzMay 20, 2008

I'm the passenger in a car going down the road just below my parents' house. Ahead of us a large oncoming pickup truck veers over into our lane and then points directly into the embankment. I say "look out! truck! truck! truck! truck!", and we slow down to go around him. He is apparently just turning around, but oddly not using a driveway or anything to help him, so he takes up most of the road.

Less than a minute later another truck does the same thing. We think this is odd, and so we stop at Hoot's corner and get out. A mini-van also stops there and about a dozen blonde-haired boys of various ages get out. One of them, maybe 7 years old, points at me and asks why I don't have a shirt on. I start to try to think of a reason, then point at one of his little brothers who also has no shirt on, and poke his belly. I point out that he's shirtless and wearing sweatpants, just like me.

Then one of the kids notices some National Geographic magazines in our car and says "You sure have a lot of National Geographics!". Yes, I say, I like to read them on long trips. I ask the kids where they are going, and they say Vermont. That's a long drive from here.
