Morning Run, Chance Meeting, and Forgotten ComputersfritzOct 5, 2008

It's a partly-cloudy morning, and I take a walk from my house, enjoying the sun. I just keep walking and walking, until I get to a field by my work, where there is a walking trail. My friend D runs up on the path, wearing only a thin dress, soaked in sweat. She is holding up her skirt as if to cool off, and wearing nothing underneath. I quip "so, you just out for a run, or a walk, or just showing off?" and she notices what she's doing and lets her dress down.

We talk and walk over to her car, which is parked in the parking lot of my work, and get in. I happen to get in on the driver's side, and then I get confused: how did this car get here? I think I walked and she ran, so what happened? I'm trying to figure it out, but she explains that she drove it here, and here she started running.

There's nobody around, and in the car it seems private, and as I'm wondering if it's "private enough" she suddenly kisses me. We make out for a minute, but I don't want to seem grabby. Afterward, I wonder why we didn't spend more time kissing, it was just really quick.

Then I have to back her car out of the parking lot, but it seems that there's not much room for backing. The center island is just a few feet from the back of the car. I think they must have changed the parking lot or something, to put in more nature. But no, it doesn't look new. With some trouble, I back her out, and then she leaves.

So now I'm stuck at work without a car or a bike. I have to walk home, and I've also got several long-handled rakes and shovels as well as a few smaller yard implements to carry. It's really difficult and uncomfortable, but I try to arrange them in a way that I can make it home. Then it starts raining.

I start walking in the rain, and just around the corner onto Allen Boulevard, I notice a couple of laptop computers. They are propped up, sort of in the bushes, but faced out, running and getting rained on. They belong to my work, and I brought them out her many weeks ago to run some sort of experiment, possibly involving GPS, and then forgot about them. I can't believe somebody didn't steal them all this time, as many people must pass by here every day.

I think that I'd better gather them up and carry them too, along with everything else I'm carrying. But then a stranger arrives, and apparently some of the stuff is his, and he wants to gather up his part of it. Then my boss Tom K shows up, and we decide that, when he's done gathering, the stranger should let Tom look in his bag for AP stuff, and then the rest of it is ours.
