Spotted Frogs! | | fritz | Mar 22, 2009 | I'm walking along a road on a farm that is apparently Conboy Wildlife Refuge (where in real life, I spent the day looking for Oregon Spotted Frog egg masses). I happen to notice two such masses in the muddy water of the ditch beside the road, and I think that I must inform the officials that they are there. They are muddy like the water of the ditch.
Then I see frogs hopping, up an embankment from the ditch, and through a wooden fence. I climb up there and look at the frogs, which are large and flat like fat toads. There are two different kinds, and I think one of them is the Oregon Spotted Frog, but I flip it quickly onto its back and the bottom side is plain, not bright orange like the Spotted. It doesn't seem to mind being flipped on its back, and lies there passively.
So I flip the other one over, and it is bright orange underneath. So I put it back right-side-up and look at it carefully (it has a mottled green back) so that I can recognize them in the future. | Next: Hey! Watch the Asceticism, Pal |
