I'm sitting on the floor by a coffee table, working on a laptop. I discover that one corner of its hinge, connecting the screen to the keyboard, is broken. I think at first that it's my laptop and I wonder if this is a common failure and how expensive it will be to fix. Then I notice my laptop is beside it, and the broken one is an old beast belonging to Dan Marks, who is sitting nearby on the couch.

I point it out to him, and he suggests that it should be thrown away. I agree, but hesitantly, because if it is to be thrown away, I might use it for a terminal or something. But I don't know how to suggest that it should be thrown away to me.
