Moving Zoo AnimalsfritzMay 18, 2009

I helping at the zoo. They have to move all these animals to new holding places, as though it's an emergency, and they can't stay at the zoo. The animals are in cubicles in a truck, and they have to be escorted one by one into new areas, which seem to be platforms mounted on hydraulic lifters to move them into various positions.

In a stationary position, I'm able to make a little anchor to which to lash the animal's leash, as though with a crampon dug in the dirt, but there's no security when we have to move around. They just have to be controlled mentally, and like any tamed wild animal, they seem calm and obedient but you never know. I'm concerned about moving the elephants, and especially the big cats.

I'm working with a huge black cat, a little smaller than a tiger, and pure black like Milou. She behaves like any cat, not particularly inclined to do what I want, and may at any time take a swipe at me. I bring her to where the platforms are, and look for one marked, with tape and a felt pen, "Pita" the cheetah.

Then there's a dustup because one of the smaller cats gets into a cage with some tiny pink babies, perhaps rabbits or the like. The cat grabs one or two before we can get her out.
