Chair Lift WarningfritzAug 6, 2009

I'm visiting Julie, who just returned from vacation. She's too busy vacuuming to pay any attention to me, so I go and look for something better to do.

I get on this chair lift apparatus that carries people up and down a hill. I just keep riding it up and down, but it seems I have to execute some swift maneuver at the changeover at the bottom, like hopping off and quickly hopping back on as it goes around this corner. One time my shirt catches, snagging me to a chair, and the chair pulls onward. I deftly disentangle my shirt from the chair, regain my position, and slip correctly into the chair going uphill.

Hofer is standing around underneath the chair lift with his glasses off. He remarks to me that he wouldn't ride that lift at all, it is too dangerous, considering that he knows the oscillator frequency is so far off that it is on the verge of failure. I consider this, but decide to continue my ride, given that I can't really bail out from here anyway, and besides, the oscillator frequency error shouldn't amount to anything besides a slight change in the speed of the chairs.
