Waiting in India, and Car PanicfritzAug 14, 2009

I'm traveling with family in India. I get up from sleeping next to Steve on the floor, but he's still asleep. I get impatient and go driving around with my mom, then come back an hour or so later, and he's still asleep. But he starts sleepily getting up, and I ask him if we should be packing up, that is, whether we're staying here another night, or moving on to somewhere else. He doesn't understand the question in his sleepy condition, and answers it ambiguously, so I have to ask again a different way, trying not to get frustrated.

Then we have to wait for Dave, who is a young teenager, and he is talking on the phone to his girlfriend back in the states. We now seem to be at Tom Kilman's house, which is full of stuff he's organizing. I tell him how we're waiting for Dave, and he comments "that's a pretty expensive phone call", referring not only to the call charges, but the vacation time wasted. I'm trying to sneak out on the porch to smoke, but Dave finishes the phone call just as I'm getting around to it.

Finally we're all in the car. I'm in the back, and Steve is in the passenger seat, and we're driving around India under his direction. We stop on a high street, and the car starts rolling forward with nobody driving, toward a cliff. Steve and somebody else in the front seat are helpless and panicky, watching the edge approach, but I'm able to open the rear door and stop the car with my foot, right as it is teetering on the edge, and they are looking down over the hood to the village below. I seem to feel like the situation is totally under control, and find it a little funny how scared they are.

(I try to record this dream on my voice recorder, but every time I try to record it starts to play some previous recording. Then I try to erase that one, and start over, and it keeps getting confused. I believe this was all a dream, and no recording exists at all.)
