River Dolphin | | fritz | Oct 29, 2009 | Some people, I think a married or dating couple, are fishing on some rocks overlooking a river. I'm hanging around alone nearby, perhaps camping. I think I was fishing in that spot earlier. I come down to the river to be friendly and say hello, and ask them if they're catching anything.
The girl answers that they caught a smallish trout, which we all agree is some success, anyway.
I hear another group fishing noisily just out of sight, and I am about to go down and talk to them when a huge fish about eight feet long appears, and nibbles at their bait. Everybody scrambles in excitement, and I identify the fish as a river dolphin (which in the real world I read about in National Geographic a couple months ago). This one has an identifiable bottle-nose, and is a mottled grey-brown. It seems hungry.
I tell them they can't catch it, and to pull their lines out of the water, but they can certainly feed it if they want. | Next: Dance Fight |
