Oscar, My Pet DucklingfritzJan 4, 2010

I seem to be on vacation in a sunny, lush place similar to New Zealand. I've adopted a duckling for a pet, who is following as I'm driving along a stream, as if departing from a "bach" in the morning. As I'm driving, I'm raving about what a good pet a duckling is; you wouldn't think so, but they're so attentive, really smart and interactive, and so soft... and look how he just follows along behind me...

But suddenly my duck is missing. We stop the car (I don't know who was with me) and walk back along the stream, looking for him. We see a variety of interesting birds and other ducks, but we would recognize him by certain spots on his tail feathers (*1), and he is nowhere to be found. We call out his name, "Oscar! Oscar!" - I think he knows his name, and he'd come when called.

My companions remain at the stream looking for Oscar. I go out across what appears to be a resort, over several shrub areas between crisscrossing roads, down to the central maintenance area. I go into a barn there, which has a whole room full of rubber boots stacked high on shelves (*2).

There's a young man in there, and he's standing in my way, staring off somewhere as if lost in thought. "Excuse me", I say, trying to get past him, but he doesn't move. I say it again, and he moves a little but not out of the way. Finally I say "Just trying to get to these boots over here..." and he seems to snap out of his thoughts and says "Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that's what you meant by 'Excuse Me'".

"Yeah, I understand", I say, "sometimes 'excuse me' can be 'pardon what I just did or whatever, which is hard to distinguish from 'get out of my way'".

The boots are a variety of shapes and sizes, many with big wide toes which I think should fit right over my shoes.

(*1) Certain spots similar to the ears of a dog named "Phantom", of a similar breed to Sydney, that I was interacting with at the doggie park.

(*2) Just found my rubber "gumboots" in the garage as I've been cleaning it out.
